Garfield

The Garfield Historic District was one of the first residential neighborhoods built out of the original townsite of Phoenix, Arizona. Now, at the heart of downtown, this neighborhood is home to some of the most eclectic bungalows and Period Revival homes in the city. We renovated this 1923 historic house in the neighborhood, bringing a bit of modernity to the home, while also preserving the historic features we love. During the renovation process, we found a chimney inside one of the walls that had originally been used for heating and cooking. We revitalized the fireplace, using the chimney for the first time in decades. Continually, we reclaimed the wood floor and repurposed it for other uses, putting in newer floors and concrete tile. We exposed some of the original red brick, used as an accent, as one way of preserving the historic qualities of this newly renovated home.
